ANONYMOUS POEMS AND VERSUS FROM THE 1984 CANADA TOUR

"SPIRIT OF SUNNYVALE"
MARCHING YOUTH BAND

"THE BEAT GOES ON"
In pace, in step, in rhythm
Crying, they wanted more,
Beat the drum, clang the cymbal -
The beat went on like it never had before

In motion, in emotion; erosion
Says one, say some.
They begged and begged fore more
And so the beat goes on

"INSPIRAIN"
Staccato Summer deluge
Driving down,
Soaking the silken silver troopers.
A flash of lightning-
Jerusalem, Jerusalem...
A burst of thunder
As golden brass discharged their powerful song.
"And did the Holy Lamb of God..."
A flash, a crash
Jerusalem, Jerusalem...

"VICTORIA"
On with the lights, on with the show;
The show must go.
Damn the torpedoes
Call in the heroes
Victoria.

"TODAY'S CHALLENGES"
Today's challenges are yesterdays problems
overcome by tears, sweat and faith.
As we, soldiers searching for our goal
Shed light wherever we pass.
Let us rejoice for we have been proven worthy
of the grace of our Almighty God
Onward!
Toward our Jerusalem we strive!
We will follow from the barred depths
of depression,
To the ecstasy of our awakening!

"FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN- (1st impression)"
The lone trumpet and his echo
Heralding their regal strain.
Royal deep voices added.
And the fanfare has begun.

A burst of drums,
The tuba hums
As the band explodes in song.
The bass is driven
As higher voices enact a dream.

"TIGER IN THE SUN"
An explosion of fury -
Put the tiger on a leash
(But we'll let him have his run).
A cymbal clash,
Resounding brass.
Control the tiger
(But we'll let him have his fun).
The song, the dance, the flash,
The tempo, shine and snap.
Adrenaline coursing through a hundred bodies
As they hurl themselves to a destiny of their own.

Do not control the tiger in excess -
Put the tiger in the sun.

"THEY FOLLOWED A DREAM"
Somewhere between the desire and the reality
Lies the work,
The pain, blood, sweat, and tears;
The joys, the sorrows,
And the realization of a dream.

For those who labor from inception to the reality,
To them be the honor
And to them may it be said
They followed a dream.

They followed a dream.
Five years through hot & cold,
Tears and joy.
They survived
Through victory and defeat.
What was once a dream,
Is now reality.
What people said couldn't be done
Was done.
They survived
And emerged like a rose.

"IT'S ALMOST OVER"
Day by day, night by night
We all practice to make it right.
The sun goes down, the sun goes up
And we don't pause to give a frown
We have accomplished many feats,
in the course of the weeks.
But, when it comes time to meet Santa Ana
There will be nothing but smashed bananas,
The end is close, and tears will fall.
But face it, the year is near
and I love you all
It's almost over.

"THE WARRIORS"
Taxed to exhaustion,
the brave warriors train
For a title.
Push harder, pull harder,
Attack together, release together,
And push yourselves even more,
Then one night,
For a glorious quarter-hour
The world is yours.
The title is yours.
The payoff is yours.

Take no prisoners!
Your are the warriors;
Sword and saber,
Flag and horn,
Flute and drum.
You are the Warriors;
Take no prisoners!

"TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT"
The Warriors;
Brave, hardworking, courageous.
The Champions;
Brave, hardworking, courageous.
The Survivors;
Brave, hardworking, courageous.

You, the front-runners,
Have come to the pinnacle,
The apex of your dedication;
Tonight's the night.

You, the warriors;
Bang the drum, strike the chord;
Sail the flags, crash the cymbal.
Tonight's the night.

You the champions;
Your bravery, courage, and inspiration
Will not find its demise in a moment of brevity
Tonight's the night.

You, the Survivor;
You, the Warriors;
You, the Champions;
Tonight's the night;
Take no Prisoners.

"CHAMPIONS"
"Who'll make his mark?" the captain cried.
"We'll make our mark!" the band replied.

Called champions,
They strove
And drove
To make their mark

They ate and slept,
Dreamt and wept,
And went the extra mile.
They coiled and curled
And now the warriors
Are champions of the world.
